My best advice to new chairs is to consult your district committee on everything. Although empowered to make many decisions, chairs should build consensus on key issues. I was a district committee member in Northern IL for several years before being elected chair and repeated that pattern in Louisiana. In both cases, when I became chair, the other members of the committee were experienced coaches and I listened to what they had to say. Chairs don’t have to do anything alone. So, don’t try.
