(1) How has the additional one minute of Summary speech time affected Public Forum debates?
Students tend to use the extra speaking time to further muddy the waters of the round. The summery speech should be a time of crystallizing the round down to its most important issues. This goal is compromised by the new rule.
(2) How has the additional one minute of prep time affected Public Forum debates?
Rounds are longer and tournaments are extended a little more.
(3) Have the revised evidence paraphrasing rules caused a substantial change in practice? If so, please describe the positive or negative change.
The paraphrastic representation of evidence is a necessary right in Public Forum. I have seen little change in how evidence is presented and this has not compromised the event.
(4) Has the revised Grand Crossfire language caused a substantial change in practice? If so, please describe the positive or negative change.
The Grand Crossfire is an important part of Public Forum toward the end of clarifying the final issues of the round. I have seen little change in the Grand Crossfires and this has not compromised the event.
