Security Event Update

Published September 25, 2026

We recently experienced and immediately identified a security event in our IT systems. We have confirmed that member accounts are secure.

As soon as we identified the security event, we:

    • Investigated and identified the software vulnerability that allowed the security event to occur.
    • Fixed the software vulnerability to address the cause of the security event.
    • Investigated whether any information in our IT systems may have been accessed as a result of the security event.
    • Confirmed that no passwords or payment card information were accessed or taken.
    • Confirmed that member accounts are secure.

The safety and security of our community is our top priority. We know our members trust us with their information, and we take that responsibility seriously. We are continuing to strengthen our safeguards and take the steps necessary to protect our community and their information. We are also working with outside experts to review and strengthen our IT security measures.

We encourage all our members to remain vigilant and continue to practice good cybersecurity habits, such as:

    • avoiding opening unexpected emails or attachments
    • being cautious with links
    • using unique passwords for different accounts
    • reporting anything that looks suspicious to your email provider

We sincerely regret that this security event occurred and understand the concern it may cause. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us at info@speechanddebate.org. We appreciate your membership and continued support of the NSDA.
