Senator Ted Cruz established his reputation as a standout debater early on. In high school, he was captain of the speech team and served as president of the drama club. He was a decorated college debater at Princeton University, participating in the American Parliamentary Debate Association and Whig-Cliosophic Society. He was ranked as a top debater in the country, winning the top speaker award in 1992, and competed in national and world debate championships. These experiences were instrumental in shaping his future political career.

After graduating from Princeton University and Harvard Law School, Senator Cruz clerked for Chief Justice Rehnquist and worked in private law. He proceeded to work with the George W. Bush administration before moving home to Texas to serve as the Solicitor General of Texas.

He was elected United States Senator from Texas in 2012 and was the first Hispanic American Senator to serve his state. Senator Cruz ran for President in 2016.

Senator Cruz also hosts Verdict with Ted Cruz, making him the first sitting U.S. Senator to host a national talk radio program.
