Discourse Power: Speech & Debate Academy located in Mountain House, CA (30 minutes from Livermore, CA)
About Us:
At Discourse Power, we believe in the transformative power of speech and debate. At Discourse Power, student development is a priority. Therefore, our coaches emphasize building confidence and skills gradually through structured practice and supportive feedback. Through our speech and debate programs, we aim to cultivate critical thinking, effective communication, and a passion for learning. Discourse Power completed one year of operations in Summer 2025. We are now expanding our programs and hiring new coaches (part-time). Our programs are typically 15-week programs, once a week in-person class, with extra practice sessions through Zoom.
Classes take place once a week on weekday evenings and once a week on weekends (based on coach’s availability).
Flexibility in building schedules
POSITION SUMMARY:
Develop and implement debate lesson plans for Novice and Varsity teams. Self-Starter, solid understanding of fundamentals, philosophy, debate drills, Framework debate, and advanced debate strategies. Present topic analysis and generate discussion on affirm and neg contentions. Strong organization skills, being able to create strategies to different learning styles of students. Tournament and extra practice planning. Students’ evaluation and provide constructive feedback.

Qualification/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or in progress toward obtaining a bachelor’s degree. 3-4 years of debate coaching experience in high school. Highly organized and a strategic planner, who is strong in interpersonal and presentation skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Classroom management experience. College students with high school debating experience can also apply for this role.
Fall Classes Start Date: End of August (4th week).
Salary: Hourly rate dependent on the experience and qualifications.
$20-$35 Per hour.
Year-round employment: Fall, Spring & Summer. This is an in person position.
